What we're up to
Allium has been open for the fastest 8 weeks the world has ever seen....!
Well, what are we up to indeed. We're enjoying meeting new and returning customers in the shop and the classes are going along nicely.
Behind the scenes we're trying out lots of new stuff with each of us creating in slightly different directions.
Michael has been trying out new combinations of lovely photographs in new frames with fab results. There are photos of beautiful flowers, our own fantastic local scenes and stunning locations across the world. His cards are also proving popular with these acting like miniature prints as well as cards.
Janette (aka Mum) is always going off in search of new and exciting ways to make jewellery and has recently taken delivery of a rivetting thingy (which possibly has a more technical name...) so over the next few weeks we should expect everything in the shop to get eyed up as a possible material for rivets...should be interesting! As always she's creating bespoke wedding jewellery and developing ranges in our silver jewellery. I'll pick two pieces to tell you about - one is a new range of bangles she has worked on. The sterling silver bangle is open and the ends of each side of the bangle are little silver hearts - fab! In a totally different style she has also made a fine silver leaf using an actual leaf. The fine silver leaf has then been oxidised which gives a beautiful sort of black and blue effect. She has added a wee drop of pearl and crystal to the top for a really lovely, organic style of necklace. I'll pop some photos on soon!
I've been looking at getting my lampwork torch set up so I can spend more time making glass beads which I love. Hopefully more news on that soon. Dabbling with some new ideas for the pmc (precious metal clay) which produces fine silver. Also, revisiting the huge boxes of random fabrics I have collected in an attempt to do some screen printing and then see what comes out of that. There's just not enough hours in the day!
Along side this we've been trying to fit in some training for the Edinburgh Moonwalk which takes place on 11th June. Looking forward to telling you how that goes (I think!).
Well, cheerio for now. Remember to just email us at info@alliumonline.com if you have any questions and pop in to see us if you're in South Queensferry!
Kirstin :)
